Motorcycle Race Turns Deadly in Oakland

Fortunately, the senseless acts of four motorcyclists did not affect any innocent bystanders. Last night, four motorcyclists entered a "street race" that turned deadly when all four riders crashed into a concrete wall on Middle Harbor Road in Oakland, California. Two of the racers did not survive the fatal motorcycle crash; the other two were rushed to Highland Hospital to treat their serious injuries. Let's hope other motorcyclists learn from this fatal mistake keep racing to the track.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Claude Wyle

Motorcycle v.Motorcycle Crash Kills Fremont Woman

Ronda Anaya rode as a passenger on a Harley motorcycle headed down Altamont Pass Road in Alameda County, California. Ronda and her friend Sam enjoyed an afternoon ride last Sunday, until they met tragedy and were thrown from their bikes during a head-on collision with another motorcycle ridden by Joe Silver. This catastrophic motorcycle accident was caused by the careless and senseless act of Silver, who was crossing the double yellow line around a curve at a high rate of speed. The Harley rider Sam was air-lifted to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley where he was treated for severe injuries, including multiple fractures to his toes foot, leg, and hip. His passenger Ronda was killed at the scene Our motorcycle accident attorneys are representing Sam now.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Claude Wyle

Verdict: CHP 911 "Grossly Negligent."

A San Francisco Superior Court Jury found the CHP 911 dispatch center "grossly negligent" in mishandling a deadly trucking accident. The mishandling of the 2003 call was a factor in the death of Richard Housley, who was crushed between the truck and trailer of the truck he was driving. The jury determined that 911 dispatch center departed from its standard procedures when they failed to call an ambulance, yet reported one was on its way.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Claude Wyle

Alameda Cyclist Memorialized With "Ghost Bike."

Had only one motorcycle learned to "share the road" with the car it was trying to pass exactly one year ago today, Ed Weiss may still be alive. Instead, this avid cyclist was struck by that motorcycle and suffered fatal injuries. Today friends, family and admirers memorialized him with a bicycle painted white -- the famed "ghost bike." Let's hope this raises awareness and prevents future auto accidents.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Claude Wyle

Antioch Man Killed on Highway 24 in Walnut Creek

Early this morning, a 60-year-old man was struck by another vehicle and killed while laying down flares on Highway 24 in Walnut Creek, California. The man did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at John Muir Medical Center. Since the vehicle was out of traffic, this is an example of how auto accidents like this can be avoided by remaining in your car until help arrives.

For more information on this subject, please refer to our section on Car and Motorcycle Accidents.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Claude Wyle

Marin Lawsuit Raises National Awareness of Dangerous Bike Hubs

Traditional quick release bike hubs pose a danger to children because the wheels may spontaneously fall off, causing disfiguring and serious injury. This fall, New Jersey may become the first state to enact a ban on quick-release bicycle hubs. The movement against the defective bike hubs is rooted in Marin County, California, where families of eight injured children filed a lawsuit against Wal-Mart and the manufacturer of the bike hubs. Three of the injured children suffered serious brain injuries; others suffered broken bones, missing teeth, and severe cuts and bruises. Although the defendants prevailed, the Marin families are now appealing.

The Marin lawsuit has prompted improvements within the industry. Schwinn, Mongoose and Trek have all began using the "CLIX" hub, which ensures retention of the wheel even if it is not completely tightened. The lawsuit has also given rise to SHOK, a nation-wide consumer activist group organized to raise awareness on the dangers of the hubs and to seek redress from Wal-Mart.

For more information on this subject, please refer to our section on Defective and Dangerous Products.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Claude Wyle

Reckless Teen Kills Three in Deadly Auto Accident

Last night a reckless teenage driver took the lives of three others, as he raced at nearly triple the speed limit on a curvy road in Almaden Valley, San Jose. This auto fatality occurred when the reckless driver first struck an elderly couple who were pedestrians standing at the side of the road, and then smashed into two trees. The elderly couple, the driver, and his passenger all suffered fatal injuries. Police believe alcohol and inexperience to be the primary collision factors. Relatives of the victims should consult auto accident attorneys to discuss possible wrongful death claims, or how to make an uninsured motorist claim.

For more information on this subject, please refer to our section on Car and Motorcycle Accidents.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Claude Wyle
