Undisclosed Ingredient Prompts Ice Cream Recall

Ralphs and Food 4 Less stores have recalled thousands of pints of Private Selection ice cream. This could be tragedy for some ice cream lovers, but could become a matter of life-and-death for people with egg allergies. This is because the ice cream may contain eggs, which are not listed on the label of the ice cream. Consumers with egg allergies could suffer life-threatening or serious allergic reactions from eating the product.

For more information on this subject, please refer to our section on Defective and Dangerous Products.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Claude Wyle

Tainted Meat Prompts Recall

Topps Meat Co. is under Federal investigation after 23 people in eight states suffered serious illness after eating E.coli-laden hamburgers. Most people recover from E. coli poisoning within a few days. However, E. coli poisoning can cause serious injuries to the very young, the very old, or to people with weakened immune systems. People aren't the only victims here. Topps destroyed 332,000 pounds of patties - now that's a lot of cows that didn't have to die.

For more information on this subject, please refer to the section on Defective and Dangerous Products.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Claude Wyle

Soy Deli Tofu Pulled From Supermarket Shelves

State health officials found dangerous bacteria in Soy Deli brand tofu during routine testing. Today California officials issued a warning to supermarkets and natural food stores to pull the product from shelves. Consumers are advised to discard the product, or risk Listeria infections. Listeria infections may cause serious and sometimes fatal infections.

For more information on this subject please refer to the section on Defective and Dangerous Products.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Claude Wyle

Lawmakers Curtail Sales of Treated Meats

Michigan Reps. John D. Dingell and Bart Stupak, Dem. are urging meatpacking companies and Safeway to stop the practice of packaging meat in carbon monoxide gas. This practice makes the meat appear fresher because it will not turn brown as quickly. Although there are no known health-risks associated with carbon monoxide, consumers can be tricked into purchasing unhealthy meat, which can lead to food poisoning. Safeway has responded by voluntarily pulling treated meat from its shelves.

For more information on this subject matter, please refer to our section on Defective and Dangerous Products.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Claude Wyle

Over 700 People Ill From Salmonella Poisoning

The number of people that have reported falling ill after eating at the Pars Cove restaurant booth at the Taste of Chicago has now risen to 717. The restaurant served a hummus salad that had been tainted with Salmonella. The number of confirmed food poisoning cases is now 116.

Pars Cove, a Persian restaurant that describes itself on its Web site as "the place where health and cost consciousness meet", served up a tainted salad at the Taste of Chicago Food Festival that has been linked to the salmonella outbreak. The dish, called a Shirazi Salad contains "diced tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, and herbs in a fresh lemon virgin olive oil," according to the online version of Pars Cove's menu. Previous reports indicated that hummus was also served with the salad and could have been a potential source of the salmonella.

Health officials have yet to pinpoint the exact source of the salmonella bacteria, but have thoroughly inspected Pars Cove Restaurant and administered stool tests for the presence of salmonella to all employees, the Department of Health said last week.

The Tast of Chicago is held at the beginning of July. This is the first time in 20 years that they have experienced a food poisoning outbreak.

For more information on this subject, please refer to our section on Defective and Dangerous Products.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Shannon Weidemann

More E. Coli Tainted Food, This Time at Taco Bell

Wow, with the most serious outbreak of E. Coli toxins since the spinach scare of this last September, at least 39 people were infected, and two of them critically through food traced to Taco Bell. Shockingly, Taco Bell covered up the news for at least several days, hoping it would all go away before the public panicked. This food poisoning attorney believes it is the responsibility of anyone who realizes that they have sold contaminated food or drink to the public to immediately report the food poisoning to appropriate authorities, in the hope that serious injuries or death will be prevented.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Claude Wyle

Food Poisoning: A Deadly Danger to Children

After spending more than a week in trial in Martinez, in Contra Costa County, California in a food poisoning case, the judge ordered a mistrial. Our client, a beautiful six year old girl, got Salmonella food poisoning from a restaurant that had repeatedly failed to get a health department permit to operate. They were still selling food to the public, despite repeated failures to get a permit! Our client almost died from the food poisoning, Salmonella is just like E. Coli in its terrible effects on the body, and those most at risk are children and the elderly. Now seven years old, our client has permanent residual problems from being poisoned. Well, we get to go to trial again this May, and I will keep you apprised of the results. We will continue to fight for victims of Salmonella food poisoning.

I am aghast at all of the E. Coli and Salmonella scares across this country. I stopped eating spinach for a while. Now I have to worry about lettuce. And I learned that some thousands of pounds of beef from Texas might also be tainted. It is deplorable that this giant and prosperous country of ours cannot keep our own food supply safe and clean. What kind of example are we setting for the rest of the world when we do not protect our own children and the elderly from contaminated food? The spinach and lettuce and beef industries are losing millions in trying stop the damage, and they should spend millions more to compensate the families poisoned by the tainted food. It is a parent's worst nightmare to have a child so deathly ill and not be able to do anything about it. The old adage is certainly true that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I will post more on food safety issues in the days to come.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Claude Wyle
