Muni Bus Strikes Pedestrian

Early Tuesday morning, a Muni Bus struck a pedestrian at the corner of 6th and Market Street, in San Francisco, California. Passengers on the bus screamed at the driver to stop, but it was too late, the bus slammed right into the woman. The pedestrian survived, but suffered severe injuries. Police are currently investigating the incident, which is the 18th pedestrian versus Muni accident this year.

11-year-old Oakland Girl Killed By a Hit-and-Run Driver

Alana Williams, a sixth-grader at Frick Middle School in East Oakland, was killed on October 16, 2009, as she walked through a crosswalk at a busy intersection on her way to school.

She had gotten off an AC Transit bus around 8 a.m. and was struck in the crosswalk on 64^th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard by a car described only as black Lexus, approximately three to six yeas old.

The Lexus, also heading south on Foothill, struck the girl as it maneuvered around the bus and turned right onto 64th Avenue and kept driving, police said. Police did not know whether the Lexus had run the stop sign there.

Police have not located the driver of the Lexus, but are continuing to search.

This story illustrates how important it is to protect our children with cameras and stoplights at unsafe intersections, as well as crossing guards and police presence if possible. Deadly San Francisco Intersection Takes Another Life

Sloat and 19th Avenue is one of the most dangerous intersections in the city of San Francisco. Last year, this intersection claimed seven fatal injuries. Wednesday, two cars, in a head-on collision, claimed the life of a 21-year-old pedestrian. An unidentified mother and her toddler were also struck, but survived, with moderate injuries.

Reckless Teen Kills Three in Deadly Auto Accident

Last night a reckless teenage driver took the lives of three others, as he raced at nearly triple the speed limit on a curvy road in Almaden Valley, San Jose. This auto fatality occurred when the reckless driver first struck an elderly couple who were pedestrians standing at the side of the road, and then smashed into two trees. The elderly couple, the driver, and his passenger all suffered fatal injuries. Police believe alcohol and inexperience to be the primary collision factors. Relatives of the victims should consult auto accident attorneys to discuss possible wrongful death claims, or how to make an uninsured motorist claim.

Woman Tragically Killed in Train Accident

Britta Aker, who was just 27-years-old, was killed early yesterday morning when she walked across Union Pacific Railroad tracks in Newark, California. Our hearts go out to the family of this young woman; especially knowing that it will be difficult for them to recover damages for civil liability. This is true because most courts will hold that railroad tracks themselves are sufficient warning to the danger of being struck by a train, and therefore tend to rule in favor of the defendant railway company.

Multiple Car Crash Claims Two Lives in Fremont

A series of auto accidents on Highway 880 near Fremont, that may have involved a potential hit and run, as well as alcohol and speeding last Saturday, has caused the wrongful death of two individuals and the serious personal injuries of several other people. It apparently began when an Oakland car driver crashed into the center median. The Oakland driver may have been originally struck by another car. Four separate automobile collisions subsequently occurred, resulting in the wrongful death of two passengers in the most severely damaged vehicle.

Both 34-year-old Onesimo Nunez of San Jose and 25-year old Shawn Lunde of Fremont, were killed in this car crash on 880, all this according to the Alameda County Coroner's office. The surviving drivers of the Nunez and Lunde vehicles suffered major personal injuries as well, and are being treated in a local Alameda County hospital. The driver of a Toyota Camry is also being treated for serious personal injuries.
The driver of the Escort involved in the first collision and the driver of a Honda S2000 involved in the next accident both suffered personal injuries and have been treated and released from Alameda County hospitals.

The CHP released one person originally suspected of drunk driving however believe one or more hospitalized persons may have been under the influence at the time of the auto collision.

The CHP is investigating the multi-car crash and is requesting that anyone with information on the collision or the suspected hit-and-run driver to call the Hayward CHP office at (510) 489-1500.

Death of Fremont Child in Car Crash: No Safety Restraints

On Sunday night, a 4 year old Fremont girl was killed in an automobile collision on Interstate Highway 880, when a San Leandro woman crashed her Mustang into a Mitsubishi, that flipped into oncoming traffic. The Mitsubishi then struck a Toyota Sequoia SUV head on. Although eight people suffered personal injuries in this multi car accident, the child that was killed was not properly restrained and was ejected from the vehicle. The driver of the Mustang, a woman from San Leandro, and her passenger from Oakland,, suffered less serious personal injuries, according to the CHP.

SUVs may be appear to be tougher than regular cars, but parents need to use the same safety equipment as they would if they were driving in a smaller vehicle. When the Mitsubishi hit the Toyota Sequoia, both cars overturned. ``At least one of the children was ejected,'' CHP Officer Cheever said, likely the 4-year-old Fremont girl who died in the crash.
Six other people were sent to the hospital with major personal injuries, including two girls ages 6 and 9, according to the CHP. The other occupants of the Toyota were also from Fremont. A New York man, and a Union City woman, were in the Mitsubishi. The surviving children are at Childrens Hospital in Oakland.

With and estimated 3.4 million uninsured drivers in California, it is vitally important that each of us protect ourselves by purchasing our own insurance for automobile accidents or motorcycle accidents. Although the State of California offers cheap insurance, only 26,000 people have signed up for the low-cost program. How do you protect yourself in the event of an car crash or a motorcycle crash or even a bicycle crash or a pedestrian accident? You need to purchase a good insurance policy with the highest liability limits you can afford, and you must purchase uninsured motorist coverage and underinsured motorist coverage of equal dollar limits.

Don't be tricked by an insurance agent into waiving uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, or agreeing to a lower limit than your liability limits. If 3 million drivers are not buying the insurance to protect you, protect yourself and your family by buying your own automobile or motorcycle insurance.

Scaffolding Collapse Causes Catastrophic Highway Accident

Failure of scaffolding on a highway on ramp near Chico, California caused a catastrophic highway accident early this morning. Miraculously, no fatalities occurred when thirty-six tons of steel collapsed on top of vehicles underneath. Three people suffered serious injuries, including multiple broken bones. One survivor was trapped in his FedEx truck for more than three hours before being rescued. OSHA is investigating this incident for possible safety violations.

Man Killed in Car Accident on 580

A four-car accident closed three of the four eastbound lanes of I-580 Sunday afternoon. The crash occurred near the Beaumont Avenue exit, and the California Highway Patrol closed the lanes for more than two hours.

A man killed in the four-vehicle wreck was identified as Richard Schiavo, 20, of Oakland. No information was available on the other victims' other injuries or the cause of the crash, which caused 90-minute delays.

Authorities were still investigating the accident at last report.
